August Bank Holiday 2008 saw a staff event at the Home of Managing Director David Gillam.
Our guest of honour was world famous Botanist and all around good guy Dr. David Bellamy.
Spinnaka Staff enjoyed his company as he went on an impromptu “wrummage” in the garden pointing out interesting facts like the headache relieving properties of the Willow tree and the fascinating history of some of the plants and flowers found as he made his way around.
Another most welcome visitor was also the whole Hog Roast provided by the Directors which was enjoyed by all with an occasional libation served by the ever willing barman for the day James Gillam.

Following a visit by MD David Gillam to the rural community of Mburi in Kenya 4 years ago the Directors agreed that a small amount from each case would be given to fund the building of a school for this small rural community in the foothills of Mount Kenya.
Following a visit by MD David Gillam to the rural community of Mburi in Kenya 4 years ago the Directors agreed that a small amount from each case would be given to fund the building of a school for this small rural community in the foothills of Mount Kenya.
Having gained permission from the Kenyan Government to build the School land was purchased and building work commenced in 2008. We were delighted to hear last week that the school has openned in January 2009 with an initial complement of 100 Pupils, a number which we hope will rise to 160 over the next few months . Working with local Kenyan businessmen, Tradesmen and the Church we are confident that the school will provide a really worthwhile facility for the local community where, at present children as young as 5 years of age have to walk for up to 5 miles each way, each day, just to get to school. This community really values Education and sees at as possibly the only way out of the cycle of subsistence farming on smaller and smaller plots of land as Fathers share plots with Children generation after generation. We truly hope that perhaps one day a generation of children in Mburi will have the opportunity to make the best of the opportunities afforded them by the Education the School will provide.
Comments David Gillam, \"Whilst our main social responsibility giving relates to sponsoring and supporting efforts by local Sports Teams to run Community focussed programmes with young people in the North East this is an opportunity to do something a bit different and support a cause which is very close to my heart. I am very grateful for the backing of my fellow Directors in supporting this fantastic project\".
